JJ Abrams
JJ Abrams: “Star Wars” to start production in early 2014, Declines comment regarding Expanded Universe and will honor but not revere the Original Trilogy
-
“I think that the thing is so big and so massive to so many people that the key to moving forward is honoring but not revering what went before,” said JJ Abrams
-
Abrams also revealed that production on Star Wars Episode VII is set to start right at the beginning of 2014. “Most likely we are going to be moving to London at the end of the year for the Star Wars movie,”
-
Not that the director was saying much more about his upcoming Star Wars gig. “No comment,” replied Abrams with a smile on his face to a question from Hudlin if the new Star Wars movies would be based partially on the dozens of novels that have come out over the years bridging various unexplored aspects of the films’ characters.

In a move that will help ease the passing of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, this week Lucasfilm announced the development of a brand new animated series, titled Star Wars Rebels. The project is to be helmed by TCW director Dave Filoni and will focus on events between Episodes III and IV. According to Filoni, the art direction of the series (both in design and color palette) will be heavily influenced by Ralph McQuarrie’s concept art for the Original Trilogy. As a result, some designs such as the proto-X-Wing pictured above, may find their way into the series. Click below the jump for the announcement video, featuring an interview with Filoni himself!

Earlier this year, Lucasfilm (now under Disney Management™) stuck a dagger in the hearts of fans of the popular and acclaimed animated television series: The Clone Wars. Not only would the series end after this, its fifth season, but the status of material already in development (some of which had already been completed) was in doubt.
However, all is not lost. During Disney’s Star Wars Weekends, director Dave Filoni unveiled a “Season 6″ clip featuring Yoda requiring Anakin’s help in defying the orders of the Jedi Council. It’s a tantalizing look at the deeper subtexts the series was preparing to explore before its untimely demise. The completed material is expected to be part of “bonus content” – though where and how that content will be available remains unclear. Click below for the two-and-a-half minute clip.

John Williams
John Williams states that he’s ready to go.
In a much more concrete statement than previously, Williams mentions he’s already had talks with Director JJ Abrams.
-
”We’ve certainly talked about that, and I’m happy and willing to do it,” he confirms. “J.J. Abrams, who will be the director, seems excited about the idea. I have to say that J.J. is a much younger man than I, but I will try to keep up with him as much as I can!”
The imminent birth of a new “Star Wars” iteration intrigues Williams in general. “We now have the benefit of all this computer simulation and technical work that wasn’t even possible 20 or 25 years ago,” he reasons.

Michael Kaplan to join JJ Abrams from Star Trek to Star Wars.
Securing perhaps the biggest costume job going at the moment, Michael Kaplan has officially been chosen as costume designer for Star Wars Episode VII. It was on his IMDb page for a short while (later removed), but now the appointment has been corroborated by the man himself. “I am very excited to be working on Star Wars” Kaplan confirms to Clothes on Film “I’m so looking forward to collaborating, once again, with JJ.”
