In first grade I knew my grandfather passed away hours before my father arrived to tell me. When he took me out of school and kneeled at the flagpole in front and said, "Grandpa Rex is gone," I replied, "I know." He asked me how I knew. I told him that at 12:20, in the lunchroom, I closed my eyes, felt a presence, and thought, "He's gone." My grandfather passed away at 12:23pm.

Something happened that day. Something connected my grandfather's spirit to me. There are some things that cannot be explained. There is something greater than us.

All of that said: Fuck God.

I've had the same types of experiences since my dad passed away in 2000. It doesn't matter to me if it was my mind playing tricks or an actual paranormal event. What matters to me is the comfort I felt during those experiences. They always seemed to come around when I needed it most.

I challenge you to read the Conversations With God books. Some people love them (I did), some people hate them and/or think they are too loopy.

If there is a god, I sure hope he's like the god in those books. Totally blew my mind when I read it, and it's not anything like what you read in the bible.

Well, there is the fact that perception is a tremendous part of reality. If it's what you perceive, then it's your reality.

Yes. I cherish the dreams I have of my wife. Last night was a new experience. I was at first taken aback. Not in a bad way, but in a wtf is going on way. It was very comforting to me though.

I remember the first time I had a similar experience and my reaction was the same.

I'd like to think so, but I'm not a true believer in the sense. I'll probably cheat my way in and just ask for forgiveness on my death bed thereby skirting the issue. :p It's like a loophole......or cutsies.....

Again, I want to believe that it was something more. But at the same time, I know how powerful the mind is. The newness of it and it being a little over 2 years is what had me thrown

Do I believe in God? No
Do I believe in a heaven and/or hell? No
Judgement? No
Judging others? Nope

I believe in now & each other & love & the power that comes from the relationships we have with each other. And I believe when we pass on from here & now, we never cease to exist. Our energy lives on forever & who knows, maybe we have contact/knowledge of those still living, maybe we don't. I'm OK with not having all the answers & not knowing. It makes me live the now that much more.

That's a very Buddhist take on it. Not a very strict (as in fundie) Buddhist take, but more of a very zen the-way-it-is take.

I like it.

I'm a spiritualist. I believe in a higher power but I don't subscribe to religion. It's man made, inherently flawed and a big waste of time. It's also easy to use it as an excuse to act certain ways towards certain people if they don't agree.

That is my view almost entirely. I do also have some affection for EP's underlying Force (The Force) as well though.

Thanks Dan. :)

Salty definitely hit the nail on the head about religion itself, that's for sure.

Thinking about spiritual things is a fun, but I've never understood the drive to have a religion. I follow the Golden Rule, which has nothing to do with metaphysics.

So short answer, no. God is mostly likely not real.

Until someone presents scientifique proof of a higher being of any sort that is verifiable through repeat testing I'm going to be grateful that stars exploded to spread atoms our way to eventually coalesce into the form that I have today.

I don't believe in God in organized religion. I'm Pagan (not Wiccan!!) and I thank Mother Earth daily for all she gives us. The power of nature is close to what people see as God but for what I believe many of those that worship God look down on me.

Yep. The story presupposes that the world is "alive" ... and that it does not look too kindly on humans.
