Exercise isn't so much about weight loss as it is about fat reduction and turning that fat into muscle that strengthens you instead of weighing you down. That said, I'm a lazy bastard and should exercise WAY more. :p

My new year's goal was to start a physical activity that would give me both peace and stress relief. I thought yoga or pilates would fit the bill. Hell no. I found Haedong Kumdo (martial arts with swords) and it has given me immeasurable amounts of peace and stress relief! It's pretty awesome.

Now that I've covered that change, my next goal is to find satisfaction in all I do. ALL.

^ Is this discussion headed for the FF? /:)

(Actually, now that I think about it, *all* of our discussions end up there ... eventually). :))

It wouldn't be a good conversation if it didn't get there at some point ;)

what the hell you talking about, Vipes? KIM IS A NINJA! we all know this!

martial arts with swords is pretty awesome sounding. one day, some dude could say "she killed me with a sword... how weird is that?" about YOU, Kimbo! YOU!

I'm in the same lazy boat as everyone else. If it didn't cost so damned much, I would pay someone to kick my ass into shape. I just have zero personal motivation. With three kids & it being summer break, I surprisingly don't have much time either. At least, that's my excuse for now.

Yeah I bounced back and gained a bunch of weight too. I need to bounce back into action and lose all the weight I lost before... and then lose more.

The holidays (and the deep of winter for that matter) are a killer for keeping in shape. I've been trying to get back into running (it's been since last spring that I've run regularly), but between a blizzard and arctic temps ... it ain't been easy, yo.

Just finished grad school this week and graduation is this Saturday. It's funny, the older I get the better my grades get. Completed grad school with straight A's. I'm moving back home to SC at the end of this month. It's been 6 years since I was last in SC.

Thanks! Hopefully this is the last move. I've been traveling the country since 2008 so it's time to settle down back home.

Well, I finally got to this whole exercise, eating right, and keeping in shape thing back in September. Since then I've lost 25 lbs. and am in the best shape ... I've ever been in. The hard part, though, is finding a way to maintain these results going forward. Who knew that losing weight would be easier than maintaining it?

I sure as heck didn't. :p

Keep switching things up every couple of months. Switch out some exercises, add in a new routine, try intervals, etc. It's definitely difficult once you see the initial results to not plateau or slip back (especially during this time of year)!

I got in really good shape with lifting over 2 years...then stopped when I moved last Spring. Lost 30 lbs in 3 months as I was just doing some light running, no weights. Just got back into the gym this month and man, it's tough to stay with it again.

Keep up the good work EP, it's the mindset that is key!

^ I definitely agree about the mindset! The holidays kinda mess with that mindset, of course, but once the New Year hits, I'll jump right back into the routine and moderated diet. I worked too hard to get this far, only to let things permanently slide just because of a couple of weeks of Yuletide Festivities.
