I don't see what role they would play really. Unless the next film is say waaaaaaaaaaaay in the future.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. Start Episode VII 30 years after ROTJ. Not only does it put the actors at the right age, but it gives a chance to let them have children during that time and they'll be grown up while it also brings us to a time where the Jedi Order has been rebuilt and the New Republic to establish and it also gives time for enough Force users to be trained and have one or more fall to the dark side and thus begins another war. ;)

Who's to say they have to 'fall' to the Dark Side at all? How about a Jedi with bad intentions to begin with... if a Supreme Chancellor can fool a Jedi Council, why not one of their own? With the Sith Order out of the way, perhaps the next lesson the Jedi need to learn is that the Dark Side doesn't go away just because things are set 'in a balance'. Any force user can be a dickhead unless free will itself ceases to exist. What if the primary villain of the Sequel Trilogy were Luke Skywalker's own right hand man, just using the Force as taught to him by the Jedi alone?

Because it's Star Wars where good and evil are clearly defined. Life has a lot of gray area, but Star Wars is black and white.

Sounds like the dark side. ;)

That's kind of what I mean... A Jedi who is on the Dark Side to begin with. :)

If the old cast is back then it means that the new films don't center on them. It must center on their kids. I just can't see the original cast being too active in an adventure movie as they have gotten old. It puts them more in the mentor roll, like obi wan in the OT.

I'm excited either way though.

I saw that before right after they announced VII and it is intriguing to say the least...

Heh ... cool. It seems like that's certainly going to be the rough direction of the film.
If you ever have the chance for redemption, take it. Without hesitation.
