Why is there still an Empire?

Why is there still an Empire?

Postby Manowan » Tue Dec 02, 2014 3:25 pm

Ok, with the new trailer it's official. We still have Storm Troopers, Tie Fighters, etc. But why? And who is now running the empire?

The emperor was overthrown and his first in command killed (Palpatine and Vader). So why is the "rebellion" still fighting 30 years later?

The questions abound

I suppose it's complicated. If something like that were to happen in reality, it's not as if all empire soldiers would lay down their arms and sing kumbaya. Guys like Tarkin showed that there were still some power hungry folks way up in rank aside from Palpy & Vader.

I can definitely buy that the Empire didn't vanish overnight and that they still exist in some format.

Yeah, just because the Rebellion won a major battle doesn't mean that the infrastructure of the Empire completely disintegrates. You can't have an Empire without plenty of people buying in to what it represents. Especially if it's about power and control. So those that had already bought in will, no doubt, seek to fill the vacuum of power left behind by the demise of the Emperor and Vader. As such, I can definitely see how remnants of that power structure would still be in place years later.

Granted, but 30 years is a long time to still have a war going on.

30 years to undo what was done in 3 (the Clone wars).

Will be interesting to see.

Killing ObL didn't destroy the Taliban. Assuming it takes time.

Hope the Ep. 7 opening crawl will shed some light

Especially about trade routes. I *need* to know about the trade routes. [face_whistle]
