James Bond Skyfall.....what'd you think?

Postby Sarc » Thu Nov 15, 2012 6:58 pm

Let me start off with the fact that I am a HUGE Bond fan, grew up with Moore, never liked the "older" ones until well, I got older. I loved Brosnan as Bond and thought he brought the franchise back in a big way. Was utterly disappointed that there was a pissing contest in regards to negotiations and Brosnan was replaced. Hence I boycotted Casino Royale when it first came out, I thought to myself, "F this", I didn't want a Bond world with no Q etc...part of the reason I'm a big Bond fan is the continuity of it all, that is to say the mannerisms, tradition or however you want to say it. That being said the week before Quantum of Solace came out my brother finally talked me into watching Casino Royale, needless to say I loved it.

I thought Craig made an excellent Bond and I liked the gritty realism, mind you this is coming from a fan whose favorite actor playing Bond has changed over the years from Moore to Connery before settling on Lazenby/Brosnan. I can honestly say that I like them all the same, even Dalton (thank you Prince Baron).

I saw Skyfall last night, went in expecting the be all end all of Bond films. A co-worker of mine who is a casual Bond fan texted his wife whom I also work with and said that "I would love it, it's the best one", so I had high hopes. The reviews and box office also made me think, wow this is going to rock. I thought the movie was pretty decent, though out of the 3 Craig movies so far I liked this one the least, not quite sure why Quantum of Solace gets so many bad reviews, I thought it was great. Anyways.....I thought the acting was great all around, story was...decent....but wanted a bit more action, especially at the end. I get what they were trying to do and I'd like to think I'm not a mindless movie watcher who just needs "explosions" to keep me entertained, that being said I'd have to give this 3 out of 5 stars. I'd recommend this to anyone and I'd sure watch it again, it just won't be cracking my top 5 anytime soon...

I'll probably wait for DVD. Sad to say there are many Bond films I've missed over the years. SO my wife and I began watching them from Dr. No. No marathon style - simply one every few weeks or so....so when I get to Skyfall...I will :D

In fact I had the same plan...go through Dr. No and then stopped :P I'm trying to pick it back up and we started with From Russia With Love. I just got Walking Dead Season 1 & 2 as I convinced her to give it a go despite her dislike for horror and the like...She loves it so far so we'll probably whip through those before going back to Bond :P

On Her Majesty's Secret Service is very underrated, Lazenby was an idiot to listen to his manager about being type casted, he's been kicking himself in the ass for 40 yrs over that one. I haven't disliked any Bond, I can also enjoy each Bond movie, though obviously some of the older ones do seem a bit dated.

My personal ranking of Bonds:

Craig
Brosnan
Lazenby
Connery
Moore
Dalton

Though that's not really saying a whole lot because I enjoy them all pretty close to equal.

I have very fond, pre-adolescent memories of Octopussy. :)) [face_nerd]

Quite enjoyed it. Not as great as the hype machine would have you believe but still a solid modern Bond flick.

Someone needs to get Kyp back here.

It was okay, like I said I'm a big Bond fan and while I don't think it was "bad", I was expecting a little bit more action.

I've seen it not once, not twice and not even thrice. But four times, and I think I like it (uh huh!). Though I'm not sure where in my rankings I'd place it. Casino Royale became one of my favorite Bonds, and Craig holds the mantle of best Bond, only having to share the prize with Moore and Connery.

I haven't really given it much a thought. Other than it's nearly as good, or as good as Casino Royale, which is in my top 5. Need to see it on a dvd a couple of times to really make up my mind. Loved the ending with the office, that looked pretty much like the one used in the classic films.

*AHOY, SPOILERS AHEAD!*

One thing I wasn't fond of prior seeing the film, was having Moneypenny as field operative prior her taking a desk job. But when I saw the film, I was more than okay with it. Long live the new Moneypenny, Q and Ralph Fiennes's M!
