Fixed - the Share link provided never seems to work on phpbb boards. What I do is just copy the link from the page and then delete everything after the main part of the link and it seems to work :)

It's a very strange looking film. Doesn't look much like Star Trek - in fact I'd say it looks less like Star Trek than even the last Abrams film did which took quite a few liberties. Not to say that it's a bad thing...I enjoyed Abrams version no doubt. I'm definitely curious

I greatly enjoyed the re-boot. Granted, it was more of an "action" flick than a Star Trek flick, but it was a great time. I don't mind that it's gone flat out action, apparently.

But you know what DOES bug the nerd in me about this trailer? It's Star Trek - and there is not a single shot of outer space in this trailer.

THAT'S What it was. I was wondering why I had a hard time reconciling the trailer but that would be the reason to me that it seemed so NON-Star Trekian.

I don't mind the action at all if it's chooses to go in that direction but let's stay a little grounded in Trek-verse so to speak...otherwise why do Trek?

The "Beta" timeline Abrams introduced seems to have gotten a lot darker. I wonder if the Beta Trekverse will ever entangle itself with the Mirror Trekverse. I don't see how the events of ST11 would have affected the Mirrorverse at all, so I doubt there would be a beta-Mirrorverse. Heh.

I've been watching too much Fringe. :p

The enemy and love interest are both a throw back to the original TV series supposedly.

I think this could be both good and interesting (I really liked Benedict Cumbernatch in Sherlock) but Abrams definitely seems to be pulling Star Trek farther from its roots and deeper into the action sci-fi genre.

I'm utterly thrilled by the trailer(s). The hands-on-glass moment is a nice nod to classic fans, but could mean something else entirely in the context of the new film. As for whatever it means to be "Star Trek" ... Deep Space Nine took the series in, what was at the time, a radical direction. And it's easily the best series the franchise has produced. I've no problem with the shoot 'em up action flicks. They're just another addition to a great franchise.

I'm almost positive the villain is Gary Mitchell in this movie.

A lot of people are saying Khan, but the starfleet uniform in the trailer definitely weighs it in Mitchell's favor

Didn't someone come out and specifically say that Khan wasn't in the film?

Or...conspiracy...was it simply that Khan wasn't the villain....

More has been released from Paramount at a press event.

Benedict Cumberbatch is playing "John Harrison."

Alice Eve is playing Carol Marcus.

The trailer played before The Hobbit was neither of the ones posted here. It was an entire scene not just snips of scenes. I'm excited for this movie.

Cumby's comments about "John Harrison" makes him seem like a cross between Gary Mitchell and Khan.

Cumby on MTV wrote:"He's a terrorist; he operates as a terrorist. He has extraordinary physical powers, but also mental powers. He can sow an idea, which is as powerful as gunshots or close-hand combat, which he's masterful in. He tears into the fabric of both the world and the Enterprise family, and he leaves behind him a trail of devastation. It's quite exciting to watch."

^ Cool. I saw the 9-minute opening scene that previews before IMAX versions of The Hobbit and it's definitely a riveting, action-packed sequence. Scotty's reaction to where Kirk has hidden the Enterprise is freaking hilarious. There's no doubt, in my mind, that this film's got the spirit of Star Trek. Should be a fun ride this May.

To back up what EP has said - I like Abram's direction. It may not look and feel Star Trek-ish but neither did TNG vs the original series. I'm excited to see where this goes.

I remember one of my schoolteachers was a Trekkie when I was in middle school, and I think TNG was in season 2 at the time... and he said it was AN ABOMINATION. Yep. Picard. Q. Data. AN ABOMINATION.

Well, to be fair, Season Two had the now ironically titled "Shades of Gray" :))

(Though it also had Q Who? and The Measure of a Man)
